The Ritual of Brewing Tea

Some people prefer coffee, others tea… I’m definitely on the tea side, and honestly, one of the most enjoyable moments of my day is the time I spend with a warm cup of tea. Brewing tea may seem simple at first glance, but there are actually a few small tips that make a big difference in flavor.

First of all, water quality is essential. The chlorine and minerals in tap water can sometimes affect the natural aroma of tea, so I usually prefer filtered or bottled drinking water. After the water reaches a boil, letting it rest briefly helps achieve the ideal temperature—especially for green and white teas.

Brewing time and water temperature vary depending on the type of tea. For black tea, using boiling water and steeping for 3–5 minutes consistently gives me the best results. Green tea is more delicate; brewing it at 70–80°C (158–176°F) for 2–3 minutes is usually enough. White tea has an even more subtle flavor, and steeping it at 80–85°C (176–185°F) for 4–5 minutes feels just right. Over-steeping, however, can leave a bitter and harsh taste—I’ve learned that from experience.

The choice of teapot is another important detail. I usually prefer ceramic or glass teapots, as they allow the tea’s color and aroma to fully develop. When the leaves have enough space to move freely in the water, the flavors are released more evenly. Keeping the lid closed during brewing also helps the tea reach a more balanced taste.

Presentation, in my opinion, completely transforms the tea experience. Whatever mug or cup you enjoy using, warming it beforehand with hot water helps keep the tea hot for longer. Drinking from a beautifully colored, comfortable, and aesthetic cup—especially when sharing with guests—makes the experience even more delightful.

Tea is best enjoyed fresh after brewing, but if it needs to wait, a teapot or thermos that retains heat can be a lifesaver. With a few small touches, it’s possible to achieve the perfect cup every time. For me, brewing tea is not just preparing a drink—it has become a quiet, calming ritual within my day.
